The History
Mandeville Baptist was founded in the mid 19th Centuary as an outreach mission. The first sanctuary was destroyed by a hurricane in 1925. The church remained small and was served only by part time Pastors until 1970 when the call for the first full-time Pastor was made. Throughout the years various developments where made to the church by local members and a steady flow of American volunteers - we are truely thankful for them.
Resulting from the Evangalistic Crusades run by the church there was a great growth in church membership to 150 people. In 1977 the church was thriving and it was felt that in order to serve God better there needed to be an expansion of the services offered by the church therefore the church hall, Skills Centre and the caretaker's living quarters were built.
With the church growing year upon year the need to redevelop the 'L shaped' Sanctuary to a more accomodating rectangular shape to be better suited to an increasing membership. This reconstruction work was completed in Febuary 2003 and the membership is approxiately 400 people and the church still continues to grow.
"The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?"
Psalm 27:1
